The 1969 U.S. Mint Proof Set is a beautifully struck five-coin collection produced at the San Francisco Mint, continuing the Mint’s renewed tradition of annual Proof Sets after their return in 1968. The set includes the Lincoln Memorial Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Kennedy Half Dollar. The dime and quarter are struck in copper-nickel clad composition, while the Kennedy Half Dollar contains 40% silver, making it the only precious-metal coin in the set. Each coin was specially struck using highly polished dies and carefully prepared planchets to create brilliant mirror-like fields, razor-sharp details, and, on many examples, attractive frosted cameo contrast. Packaged in a protective hard plastic lens and housed in an official U.S. Mint envelope, the 1969 Proof Set had a mintage of 2,934,631 sets. It remains a favorite among collectors for its exceptional quality, silver half dollar, and its place in the early years of modern San Francisco Proof coinage.
