The 1956 U.S. Mint Proof Set is a classic five-coin collection struck at the Philadelphia Mint and issued in the Mint’s envelope-style flat-pack packaging. The set includes the Lincoln Wheat Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Franklin Half Dollar, with the dime, quarter, and half dollar composed of 90% silver. Each coin was specially produced using polished dies and carefully prepared planchets, creating sharp details and brilliant, mirror-like Proof surfaces. The coins were sealed together in a clear cellophane holder with individual pockets, placed between protective cardboard inserts, and housed inside an official U.S. Mint envelope. With a mintage of 669,384 sets, the 1956 Proof Set is especially popular for its classic designs, silver content, attractive presentation, and the collectible Franklin Half Dollar Type 1 and Type 2 reverse varieties.
