1968 US Mint P&D Set, in ALL OGP Clean Original Envelope! W/ 40% silver 1/2
The 1968 U.S. Mint Proof Set marked the long-awaited return of traditional U.S. Proof coinage after a three-year hiatus, with production moving from Philadelphia to the San Francisco Mint, where Proof Sets have been struck ever since. The set contains five beautifully crafted coins: the Lincoln Memorial Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Kennedy Half Dollar. The dime and quarter are struck in copper-nickel clad composition, while the Kennedy Half Dollar contains 40% silver, making it the only precious-metal coin in the set. Each coin was specially struck using polished dies and carefully prepared planchets to produce brilliant mirror-like fields, frosted design elements on many examples, and exceptional detail. Packaged in a hard plastic lens within an official U.S. Mint envelope, the 1968 Proof Set had a mintage of 3,041,506 sets. As the first regular Proof Set produced at the San Francisco Mint, it represents an important milestone in modern U.S. numismatics and remains a favorite among collectors for its historical significance, attractive finish, and silver content.
