The 1961 U.S. Mint Proof Set is a classic five-coin collection specially struck at the Philadelphia Mint for collectors. It includes the Lincoln Memorial Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Franklin Half Dollar, with the dime, quarter, and half dollar composed of 90% silver. Each coin was produced using polished dies and carefully prepared planchets, resulting in sharp details, brilliant mirror-like fields, and, on some examples, attractive frosted cameo contrast. The coins were sealed together in a clear cellophane flat pack, protected by cardboard inserts, and issued inside an official U.S. Mint envelope. With a mintage of 3,028,244 sets, the 1961 Proof Set remains popular for its classic mid-century designs, substantial silver content, attractive original packaging, and enduring collector appeal.
