The 1963 U.S. Mint Proof Set is a classic five-coin collection specially struck at the Philadelphia Mint for collectors. It contains the Lincoln Memorial Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Franklin Half Dollar, with the dime, quarter, and half dollar composed of 90% silver. Each coin was produced using polished dies and carefully prepared planchets, creating sharp design details, brilliant mirror-like fields, and, on selected examples, attractive frosted cameo contrast. The coins were sealed together in a clear cellophane flat pack, protected by cardboard inserts, and issued inside an official U.S. Mint envelope. With a mintage of 3,075,645 sets, the 1963 Proof Set is especially significant as the final Proof Set to include the Franklin Half Dollar, making it a desirable piece of mid-century U.S. coinage with substantial silver content and lasting collector appeal.
